About our Neighborhood
Furniturea’s adventurous designs and bold colors make a strong visual statement in Portland, Maine’s Old Port, a restored historic commercial district that hosts thousands of visitors every year. This vibrant, upscale, waterfront shopping district features a refreshing mix of commercial and recreational marine activities, diverse restaurants and bakeries, theaters, lodging, art galleries, historic architecture and unique locally-owned shops and boutiques.
Maine's past and present may be found on narrow streets paved with original cobblestones and flanked by historic and modern buildings. When you arrive, you’ll want to check in at the Regency Hotel located a block down Market Street from Furniturea. A restored 19th century armory – they removed the cannons – The Regency offers excellent accommodations in a central location within easy walking distance of all Old Port points of interest. On warm, sunny days you may want to get outside and enjoy the water. Portland’s public ferry company, Casco Bay Lines, offers passenger service and sightseeing cruises to many of the islands in Portland Harbor and Casco Bay. Or, if you prefer boating at a slower pace, sign on for a day sail around the bay with Maine Sailing Adventures.
Rather keep your feet on solid ground? Start your exploration of the Old Port at 75 Market Street. After you visit our colorful showroom, Simply Scandinavian is right across the hall, where you can see examples of fine Scandinavian crafts. Down the hall look for the Tom Veilleux Gallery that specializes in 19th and 20th century American artists. Then, take the stairs down to David Wood Clothiers and view their fine selection of upscale men’s fashions.
Walk a block or two to view wonderful Maine artists at Greenhut Galleries and The Jameson Gallery. There are fine women’s fashions at Simply Chic, Maine-made ceramics at the Maine Potters Market, wonderful jewelry at Folia and, after a hard day of window shopping, sample the award winning cuisine at Fore Street Restaurant or Cinque Terre.
So, when planning your next trip, we hope you choose Maine for its rich natural splendor, and Portland’s Old Port, a splendid example of a revitalized urban commercial neighborhood. And, of course, we hope you’ll visit our store at 75 Market Street and be dazzled by our bold colors and adventurous furniture designs. You won’t be disappointed.
